Fossil Resources: A System Out of Sync

Today, more than 90% of our platform chemicals are derived from fossil resources - fuels that are not only finite but are also accelerating climate change. In Europe, we import yearly more than 7 million tons of these, which is more than the combined weight of all blue whales on earth, but 10 times over!

Despite rising climate commitments, the industrial world remains heavily dependent on fossil resources, leading to:

  • Excessive CO₂ emissions, fueling climate change and threatening biodiversity, public health, and social stability.
  • A disconnect between sustainability goals and industrial processes, where production is designed to move from raw material to waste - rather than in closed, regenerative loops.

As governments and corporations pledge to reach net-zero, the pressure is mounting to rethink the foundations of production. Yet, transitioning from fossil inputs to circular, bio-based alternatives requires scalable, practical solutions that meet today’s performance demands without compromising tomorrow’s resources.

Global Supply Chains: Long and Fragile

In parallel, industries face increasing risks from globalized supply chains:

  • Long-distance transportation contributes significantly to carbon emissions and increases vulnerability to logistical disruptions.
  • There is a high dependence on imports, especially of strategic materials and chemicals from Asia and North America - creating economic and geopolitical exposure.

This overreliance on global markets undermines regional value creation, delays innovation cycles, and clashes with the growing demand for local, traceable, and reliable sourcing.

We are optimistic

We at Dahlia Biotech believe that nature offers elegant solutions to the world’s most complex challenges. In an age of resource scarcity, environmental pressure, and growing demand for circular solutions, we aim to shift the paradigm - from extractive to regenerative, from fossil-based to bio-based.

We envision a world where biotechnology is a cornerstone of a thriving, circular economy.
A world where innovation is inspired by biology, guided by responsibility, and driven by smart, economic thinking.

With each step forward, we reaffirm our belief that sustainability and performance are not opposing goals - they are two sides of the same future.
